Whatever happens, you can’t leave NYC without having walked The High Line. It’s a public park built on a historic freight rail line above the streets on Manhattan’s West Side. Parts of the old railway have been maintained. You can start at New York’s Meatpacking District (at Gansevoort Street) and walk all the way up to 34th Street. The park is owned by the City of New York and maintained and operated by friends of the High Line, among them fashion designer Diane von Furstenberg. This fantastic park was designed by Dutch architect Piet Oudolf. Grab a lunch in Chelsea Market (underneath the High Line, entrances on 14th Street/9th Avenue and 15th Street/9th Avenue) and eat it on one of the chairs or sun beds, while enjoying a view of Hudson River.
